The Journey Out
10 hours in LAX

10 hours in LAX 〰️
It has already been a crazy start to a month-long adventure. Starting off strong with a 10 hour flight delay and hanging out in LAX with almost no help from the airline was a little discouraging but wouldn’t expect anything less with our luck. I met Blair in the terminal and tried to find some help from Norse Atlantic after our flight disappeared from the board - that was scary. After little to no help, we were compensated with a whopping $20 food voucher each at one small cafe with insane prices and few options… a shitty sandwich was nearing $18. With Blair being pretty much gluten free, we decided to buy 14 baby bell cheeses (which added up to our shared $40) and went to a nice restaurant for more cheese and 2 bottles of wine. We spent the last few hours in LAX making the most of the circumstances - aka - we got hammered and made a day plan for London. With the 10 hour flight delay, we missed our connecting flight to Lisbon and decided that the best bang for our buck was to spend a night in London and push our Lisbon flight by a day.
After finally boarding the flight at 1am, we were ready to actually embark on our journey to the UK. Blair took the middle seat and a kind older woman from London sat on the aisle seat. We conversed with our new friend Sophia and heard stories of her children and life in LA as she has been living there for that past 10 years. I sat in the window seat and took some ZZZQuil before sleeping the entire 10 hour flight. We woke up in London with the local time being 8:30pm and hopped on the Southern Service train to London Bridge to stay at our Marriott for the evening. After a long day of travel, we were hungry but not many places were open at 11pm on a Sunday night. We found a nearby pub called Wetherspoon and shared some loaded chips, BBQ chicken pizza, chicken bites, and a pitcher of gin and cider.
Wetherspoon was decorated head to toe in the UK flag so was a very fitting first stop. After we were done, we took a stroll through the neighborhood including a walk over the Tower Bridge to the Tower of London before heading back to the hotel for the evening. Blair and I both slept great, fueled with adrenaline for a long month of travel ahead.
